The Safety Road Profile Viewer window is used to plot line diagrams (i.e. graph along route) of several types of data (e.g. crashes, specific asset presence or roadway geometric features) at once. The setup of the data is discussed in the next section of the chapter. This window is a multi-pane window with route selection on the left pane, ability to adjust the route mileposts in the top right pane and the attributes to be plotted in the lower right pane.
Note: The Safety Road Profile Viewer window always uses the Base (Statewide) Linear Referencing System regardless of what Linear Referencing System is selected as the Location Reference dropdown located on the left gutter area of the browser window (see image after Step 1 below).
In order to perform diagnostics using the road safety profile viewer, follow these steps:
Note: The boundary points (i.e. Start and End MPs) may be changed to include only a portion of the route.
Note: If a hotspot needs to be considered for further analysis, the Hotspots option should be selected.
Note: Additional right-click options in the Select Parameters to Display and Right click 'Show Linear Diagram' pane.
Color By — This command opens a selection window, from which you select the specific column under the parameter to be graphed for which you would like the color of the line graph to vary based upon the field's values (i.e. Guardrail Type).Selecting the "No Column" option from the drop-down list will not color the column values. i.e., by selecting "No Column" option from the drop-down, the color of the "asset" being graphed will not vary throughout the graph.
Edit Scope — This command opens a pop-up window that allows users to set further constraints on the portion of the route to be graphed. This window has the same capabilities as the Filter window available from reports.
Expand By — This command displays a selection window, from which you select the column under the parameter to be graphed for which you would like to appear as a separate line in the Linear Diagram based upon the field's values (i.e. Guardrail Type). Select the "No Column" entry in the drop-down list when you don't want the column to be expanded.
Note: Not all datasets plotted in the linear diagram will have data that will display in the popup window. Display of data in this pop-up window is dependant on the configuartaion of the data's link targetThe link target can be verified in Road View Setup (Safety > Setup > Road View Setup) window.
Note: Once the locations are selected, further analysis can be performed at a later stage. This will be covered in the later part of the tutorial.
7. Click the Save button. Hotspots that were selected will now appear in the Locations Shortlist Window.
