A data dictionary is a short explanation about each of the attributes of a dataset that allows anyone less familiar with the data to understand what each column or attribute means. Not all data sets have a data dictionary.
To create a data dictionary, use the following steps:
- Import data to Summit or proceed to step 2 for an existing dataset.
- Go to the Datasets tab and select the dataset.
- Select the Column Properties tab in the upper part of the screen.
- Select an individual field on the left.
- Fill in a Description for each field in the data set. If the field is a calculated value, it is good practice to include the formula in the description.
Now, Viewers or Editors of the data set can see your description of each field.
Note: You do not need to re-publish the data in order for the description to be saved.
