Diagnosis is the second step in the safety management process. The activities included in the Diagnosis process include understanding crash patterns and physical characteristics of locations identified through the Network Screening process and reviewing past studies of these locations. The outcome of diagnostics is the identification of the cause of collisions and potential safety concerns which can be studied further (HSM, 2010). Later, the potential countermeasures are identified and selected based on the Diagnosis
The diagnosis of potential safety concerns can be performed using several methods in the AgileAssets Safety Management System, including:
- GIS Explorer: Individual crashes, hotspots identified through Networking Screening , and geometric characteristics of the roadway – including Transportation Asset Inventory items housed in the AgileAssets System can be displayed in the GIS Explorer window.
- Safety Diagnosis by Group: The diagnosis analysis provides the crash counts for a chosen time period and type of crash based on counties and districts.
Note: Locations cannot be selected and added to this Shortlist directly from the GIS Explorer Window described above; however, all hotspots can be viewed using this window.
