Fleet Management > Planning > Replacement Analysis
Equipment replacement analysis is measurement of the extent to which vehicles or equipment are within or exceed agency established replacement threshold criteria. Equipment replacement analysis helps establishing replacement fund’s needs, as well as decisions about acquisition of new vehicle/equipment and planned disposal of existing vehicles.
Replacement analysis include establishing acceptable replacement threshold values for replacement criteria variables. Then calculating individual asset replacement due variables and identifying assets due for replacement based on the overall replacement criteria.
Key inputs for replacement criteria thresholds are established in Equipment Class Code window and equipment inventory windows. Threshold values for following replacement criteria are established at the equipment class code level:
- Useful life (yr): Agency defined Useful life threshold in years
- Replacement Miles/Hours: Agency defined Replacement Miles/Hours threshold
Following variables are used from equipment inventory record:
- Date Purchased: Purchase date of asset from Equipment inventory
- Current Meter: Current meter reading of equipment main meter
- Accumulated Odometer: This is equal to current meter unless equipment meter was changed showing accumulated value as old meter value plus current meter.
- Original Value: Purchase or total initial cost of equipment from inventory record.
Following variables are calculated and displayed in Replacement Analysis window along with variables listed above.
- Vehicle Age (yr): (Year Purchased – Useful Life)
- Remaining Life (yr): (Useful life - Vehicle Age), Remaining Life by Age, Useful Life threshold exceeds Vehicle Age
- Age Exceeds (yr): (Vehicle Age - Useful Life), Vehicle Age exceeds Useful Life
- Remaining Miles/Hours: When Replacement Miles threshold larger than current vehicle meter reading (Replacement Miles/Hours - Accumulated meter)
- Miles/Hours Exceeds: When equipment meter exceeds the threshold (Accumulated meter - Replacement Miles/Hours)
- Repair Cost ($): Lifetime repair cost sum from repair orders history
- $Repair/$Original Value: Ratio of lifetime repair cost and purchase cost
- due indicator: Showing if replacement is due or not using a color code
- Replacement Due: Showing if replacement is due by Yes/No value
