This example shows two traffic sections. The first reference system identifies locations by route and mile point. Then the LRM will be changed to an alternate referencing system where locations are identified by street and address.

The traffic sections, in route and mile point reference, are both on route FL4040:

  • The first section (marked "A") is between mile point 0.6 and 1.0.
  • The second section (marked "B") is between mile point 1.0 and 1.6.

In the system, these sections look like this:

The LRM is now changed to the alternate referencing system. In this system, the traffic sections use street and address identification, which are:

  • The first section (marked "A") is on Lomas NW between addresses 1281.42 and 646.67.
  • The second section (marked "B") starts on Lomas NW at address 646.67 and ends on Lomas NE at address 333.00.

In the system, these sections look like this:

The system deduces the alternate location reference of street and address from the basic reference of route and mile point because of the data provided in the alternate reference system window as shown below.

Using this information:

  • Traffic section data can be entered by route and mile point: and then the system knows its street and address; or
  • Traffic section data can be entered by street and address, and then the system translates and stores the information as route and mile point. Then, upon next accessing this information, it can be viewed or edited utilizing either route and mile point or street and address.
