The Layer Panel shows any layers that are part of a displayed map and the options to add layers to build a new map. Select the double chevron icons at the far left area of the map toolbar to open or close the layer panel.

Add a Layer

Selecting Add Layer opens the Layer Catalog, which allows you to select a layer. Selecting a layer name or the icon will add the layer to the open map. You can add multiple layers at once by clicking the checkbox next to layers in the catalog, and then selecting the Add Layer button when all layers have been checked. To rename a layer, select the ellipsis in the layer row to open the menu and select Rename.

Add a Group

Groups allow you to organize a group of layers in the Layer Panel. Select +Group and use the Rename option to change the group name. You can then use the handle on the left side of the Layer Name to drag and drop any layers that you have already added to the map into your group. You can also remove a group from your map which will remove the group and all associated layers.

Group and Layer Visibility

Use the eye icon by the name of each layer or group to toggle the layer or group visibility on the map. Green is on and grey is off.

Reorder Layers

You can drag and drop within the layer panel to reorder the layers and how they display on the map. To move a layer quickly to the top of the list of layers, click on the ellipsis and select Promote to Top.

Save to Catalog

After styling and filters have been applied, individual layers can be saved to the catalog for use in other maps by selecting the ellipsis on that layer and selecting Save to Catalog. The Layer Catalog window opens and you can name the layer, and optionally provide a description.

Remove a Map Layer

Select the ellipsis for a layer and then select Remove Layer to remove the layer from your current map. This will not remove the layer from the Layer Catalog.

Map Filter

Select the Map Filter option to define a map level filter (for example, fiscal year) that applies to all the layers of the map in display. An icon indicating that a map level filter is applied to a map is displayed on the maps tool bar, and the same icon is displayed inline for each layer to indicate whether the filter is applicable – the icon is black when applicable and orange when not applicable to a layer. Filters apply to each layer and are independent of each other.

Export Layer

This action allows you to export the layer from which the option was selected as a shapefile. You can also export the shapefile to a coordinate reference system (CRS) defined in the application that is different from the default CRS.
