Materials are stored in either stock bins (which are in a warehouse) or in stockpiles (which are located along a route).

The Material Management window is the central point for transactions involving materials. It shows both stock bins and stockpiles. You can tell a stock bin from a stockpile by noting whether a material shows values in the Route, Direction, and Start MP columns; only stockpiles display information in these columns. Through this window you can:

  • Request transfers of materials from other administrative units in your agency to a stock bin in your warehouse.
  • Transfer materials from your unit's inventory to another administrative unit or to a stockpile that belongs to your administrative unit.
  • Receive materials (only for your administrative unit).
  • Sell materials (only from your administrative unit).
  • Correct inventory amounts for stock items in your administrative unit.

Transferring materials between warehouses requires two approvals: one by the issuing warehouse that fulfills a request and one by the receiving warehouse when the material is received. However, for stockpiles, a transfer can only occur within your administrative unit and so only one approval is needed.
