The PM by Class Code Window window establishes periodic maintenance (PM) activities for each class of asset type. In some instances, however, this generalized approach does not work for a particular inventory item. This window, PM by Inventory, allows you to create a PM schedule just for this particular inventory item by overriding the PM schedule established for the class. When the Own PM column is colored green, this indicates that the inventory item uses its own PM schedule.

As with the PM by Class Code Window, the PM activities that you establish in this window are changed into work orders in the Issue Work Orders from Periodic Maintenance window and into line items in the Plan Matrix window. The amount of work required is calculated using the formula established in the PM Activity Amount Rules window.

Each asset type has its own PM by Inventory window, which contains two panes: Inventory and PM.

Inventory Pane

This pane shows the available inventory items. When you right-click a particular inventory item, a shortcut menu is displayed. This menu contains the common commands along with the following special commands:

  • Copy PM Schedule: This command copies the PM schedule of the selected inventory item to the clipboard.
  • Define Its Own PM Setup: This command is available when the selected inventory item uses the PM schedule of the class to which it belongs. When available, it overrides the PM schedule for the class and allows you to establish a different PM schedule specifically for the selected inventory item. After selecting this command, the system colors the Own PM column green to indicate that the inventory item uses its own PM schedule.
  • Inherit Parent PM Setup: This command is available when an inventory item has its own PM schedule (that is, the Own PM column is colored green). When available, this command overrides that schedule. In its place, the PM schedule for the class to which the inventory item belongs is assigned to the inventory item.
  • Paste PM Schedule: This command copies the PM schedule on the clipboard (which was copied from another inventory item) to the selected inventory item. In so doing, it replaces the existing PM schedule.

PM Pane

In the PM (periodic maintenance) pane, the Activity column shows the PM activity to be performed. The PM Trigger and PM Parameters columns specify when the activity is to occur.

Note: The entries in the drop-down lists for the the Activity column and the PM Trigger column are those activities and PM triggers associated with the asset type in the Activities and Asset Types window, respectively. See the Asset Types topic for a description of the available PM triggers.

When you right-click an activity, a shortcut menu is displayed. This menu provides the common commands along with the following special command:

  • Define Argument(s): This command allows you to modify the values shown in the PM Parameters column. When this command is selected, a dialog box opens that is appropriate for the type of PM trigger. Enter the new value(s) and select OK to update when the activity is to be performed. (Note that the PM Trigger Description column will not update until you close and re-open the window or click .)
