The Preventive Maintenance pane shows what maintenance is to be performed for the equipment selected in the Inventory pane. The Activities column shows the PM activity to be performed for the piece of equipment selected in the Inventory pane. The PM Trigger and PM Parameters columns specify when the activity is to occur. The triggers can be one of the following:

  • Perform After N Days or After M Meter: The activity is performed after a user-defined number of days elapses or when the difference between the meter reading when the PM activity was last performed and the current meter reading reaches a user-defined value (whichever occurs first).
  • Perform After N Days: The activity is performed after a user-defined number of days elapses.
  • Perform After N Meter: The activity is performed when the difference between the meter reading when the PM activity was last performed and the current meter reading reaches a user-defined value.

After selecting a trigger, a dialog box is displayed to enter the user-defined value or values. The values are displayed as numbers in the PM Parameters column in the format D;M (where D is the number of days and M is the meter reading). For example, performing an activity after 90 days or 3000 miles would display as 90;3000 and performing an activity after 1000 hours of use would display as 1000.

Note: The meter reading can be in hours or miles. Meter readings are recorded in the End-of-Month Odometer window. When the System Administrator runs the system job to update the meter readings, the readings are moved from this window and stored in the individual inventory records for each vehicle and piece of equipment. These new readings are then compared to the previous readings at which a PM activity occurred when you select the Refresh PM Queue command in the PM Needs pane in the Issue window. If the comparison indicates that the PM activity is due, then the vehicle or piece of equipment is shown in the PM Needs pane in the Issue window.

When you right-click an activity, the system displays a shortcut menu. This menu provides the common commands along with the following special command:

  • Define Argument(s): This command allows you to modify the values shown in the PM Parameters column. When this command is selected, a dialog box opens that is appropriate for the type of PM trigger. Enter the new value(s) and select OK to update when the activity is to be performed.
