Use the Scenario pane to create and run screening analyses. It contains the following columns:

  • Analysis Scope: This field shows what will be considered during the screening analysis. For example, rather than running an analysis on your entire road network, you could limit this to just particular roadways.

Note: You cannot edit this field directly. Instead, you must right-click the Scenario pane and select Edit Scope. This command displays a dialog box from which you may select the analysis scope.
  • Crash Filter: The drop-down list in this field contains the various types of crashes that are configured in the Profile Management window. The crash type selected here determines what the system will examine in the screening analysis as well as the method used for the screening analysis.
  • Has Results: This check box indicates if the scenario has already been run. When a check mark is not displayed, then the results information shown in the other tabs is irrelevant.
  • Hot Spot Rule: The drop-down list in this field contains the various rules configured for identifying hot spots in the Hot Spot Rule window. The rule selected here is used by the system to identify hot spots during the analysis.
  • Percentage Above This PM: The value entered in this field sets the threshold above the performance measure.
  • Safety Profile: This field provides a drop-down list that contains the profiles configured in the Profile Management window for which locations have been generated. The selection of a safety profile essentially determines the scope of the screening.
  • Scenario Name: This is a short description of the scenario. This description should be informative to other users, such as "5 year budget for Dist. 12 bridges."
  • Screening Method: This is a read-only field set by the selection of the crash filter.
  • Threshold Handle Rule: The drop-down list in this field contains the various rules that determine how thresholds are computed, stored, and utilized during a particular screening. The following are the three threshold rules currently available:
    • Calculate: The thresholds are computed based on user-defined percentiles and utilized in selecting the hotspots on the fly. The results are not saved in the database.
    • Calculate and Save: The thresholds are computed based on user-defined percentiles. The results are saved in the database and utilized in selecting hotspots.
    • Use existing thresholds: The thresholds (defined by the user) are considered to generate the hotspots.
  • Year of ADT: This field shows the year of average daily traffic (ADT) data.

When you right-click this pane or select Actions, the system displays a menu. This menu contains the common commands along with the following special commands:

  • Calculate Thresholds and Hot Spots: Once an analysis is run, this command causes the system to use the selected rules to calculate thresholds and identify hot spots. The system displays the results in the Hot Spots tab and Threshold Percentage for Crashes pane.
  • Edit Scope: This command allows you to set the analysis scope for the scenario. Analysis scope allows you to limit what is included in the scenario.
  • Populate Profile and Calculate Results: This command runs the screening analysis and display the results in the Scenario Profile tab. Additionally, the system computes and displays the performance measures for all profiles.
