The identification of the network elements forms the first step in network screening.  Network elements can include intersections, roadway segments, entire routes, as well as combinations/groups of these (i.e. facility types, ramps, rail-road crossings, etc.)  The process of creating the network (user-defined scope) to be used for further analysis is termed as profile management.  Each profile will have a network element.  The network elements are defined by the user.  The network elements are further divided into finer sections based on the three screening methods - Sliding Window, Peak Search and Simple Ranking.
