The system can be locked to prevent users from accessing the system (other than those with a security profile designated as a System Lock Administrator in the Access Level Settings window). Even though the system is unavailable to users, other system processes such as system jobs will run (or continue to run if they are running when the system is locked) and the system is still accessible via APIs.
