The Asset Activity window allows you to associate work activities with the asset types found within your agency. For each activity, you can also configure how the amount of work required by the activity is calculated. The asset types shown in this window are created and maintained in the Asset Type window.
The Asset Activity window shows three panes: the two panes on the left show asset types, while the Selected Activities pane on the right shows the activities associated with the asset type selected on the left.
Asset Types Panes
The two panes on the left side of the window show two views of the asset types. The upper pane shows the hierarchical arrangement of asset types. The lower pane shows a table view of the asset types, which provides more information about each asset type than is shown in the tree view. These two panes are read-only, and the displayed information is taken directly from the Asset Type window.
Selected Activities Pane
The Selected Activities pane on the right side of the window shows the activities associated with the asset type selected on the left side of the window. Activities are added to this window by using the Edit Selection command. See Associate Activities with an Asset for more information.
The PM Measure Column and PM Amount Coef columns determine the amount of work that is required, and are used for planning purposes. The PM Measure Column shows the column ID of the column that contains the value for how work accomplishment is measured. (To obtain a column ID for a column, see the Columns window.) The PM Amount Coef column provides a factor by which the value in the identified column is multiplied to obtain the total amount of work required.
These columns determine the amount of "needed" activity as follows:
"Needed" activity quantity = PM amount coef x (the value in the column named in the PM Measure Column).
The calculations configured in this window are applied in:
- The Master Plan window via the Copy/Add PM Plan command.
- The Issue Work from PM window via the Issue Work command.
When you create a work order from a PM request, the amount of work required is derived from the settings of these two columns. Similarly, when PM requests are moved to the master plan, the system uses the settings of these two columns to determine the amount of work that is required and which appears in the line item in the master plan.
For example, if striping is a PM activity whose units are stripe-miles and, on average, two stripes are painted per road, then to calculate activity quantity set the PM Measure Column to "Road Section Length (Miles)" and the PM Amount Coef to "2.0". The system would then acquire the road section length shown in the Road Section Length (Miles) column from the appropriate inventory table and multiply this value by two. The result would be the needed amount of striping.
When you right-click the Activities pane, the system displays a shortcut menu that contains common commands along with the following special command:
- Edit Selection: This command displays a new window. This window shows the tree view of all activities configured for your agency (this tree view is created and maintained in the Activities window). You use the right-click selection commands to select the activities to be associated with the asset type and then click OK. The selected activities will then be shown in the Activities pane on the right side of the window.
