Viewing Inventory Information

By completing the exercises below, the participant will understand how to view key attributes of the asset such as road name, surface age, surface type, AADT, Planned projects. Exercise 1:  View Road Name., Surface Age & Type

  •  Open the Inventory map window and zoom to an area of interest.

  • Select each of these pavement assets one at a time (road name, surface type, surface age).

  • Review the attributes in the popup for each of these assets.

Apply Map Filter to see specific Jurisdiction Assets Information

By completing the exercises below, the participant will understand how to view assets for selected Jurisdictions (assets with a certain range of surface ages, average daily traffic, surface types, and functional classes). Exercise 2:  Applying Map Filters

  •  Open the Inventory map window

  • Click on the desire filter bubble from the top menus.

  • Select "Condition Category" and enter min/max values or use the slider to select.

  • Click on "Jurisdiction" bubble and select the jurisdiction of interest.

  • Click anywhere on the map to apply the filter.

  • Select "Functional Class", uncheck a few values and review the data.

  • Click anywhere on the map to apply the filter.

Understand Network Performance

By completing the exercises below, the participant will understand how to view condition categories, review assets in bad conditions, and apply filters to see particular road segments. Exercise 3:  Understanding the Network's Performance

  •  Open the Inventory map window.

  • Browse the network color-coded by condition category.

  • Click on a "Roadway Segment" or "Parking Lot" to review details and the condition category classification.

  • Use the "Condition Category" slider to select a desired level.

  • Apply filter "Pavement Type = Asphalt Concrete & Jointed Concrete" to see conditions of only Asphalt & Jointed Concrete.

Create Basic Scenarios Work Plan

Exercise 4:  Creating Basic Scenario Work Plan

  •  Open the Management screen and select "Add".

  • Setup the scenario (using "Budget Amount", "Scenario Start Year", "Scenario Length", "Asset Type".)

  • Next, choose target condition for the scenarios in Average PCI.

  • Give the scenario a name and comments.

  • Save and run to execute to generate the work plan.

View and Understand Scenario Results

Exercise 5:  Understanding a Scenario Result

  •  View the scenario report.

  • View work plan on the map.

  • Filter map by ("Jurisdiction", "Functional Class/Highway Classification", "Pavement Type", "Treatment Type", "Budget Category")

  • View the work plan by year (select a year in the work plan to filter by that year)

  • Select all years to view the entire work plan.

  • View the constraint results

General Performance Model Structure (Performance Modeling)

Exercise 6:  Decision Parameters setup, Add/Delete a Node.

  •  Open the Performance Models Structure window.

  • Add a new child node to the parent node.

  • Display the graphical details for the model that you created.

Performance Model List window (Performance Modeling)

By completing the exercises below, the participant should be able to understand how to create new Models and display graphical details related to each of the model. Click Here for Additional Information on assigning a Performance Model.

Exercise 7:  Create a new Model.

  •  Open the Performance Models List window.

  • Create a new Performance Model

  • Set Decision Parameters for the node that you created.

  • Delete the Node that you created.

Master Work Plan

By completing the exercises below, the participant should be able to open the Structures Analyst Master Work Plan window, view or edit a record, as well as create a new record. Click Here for Additional Information on Master Work Plan window Topic. Exercise 8: Structure Analyst Master Work Plan window.

  • Open the Master Work Plan window.

  • Sort the records in the window based on your preference using the right-click menu option.

  • Edit/Modify a work plan record and save the changes.

  • Add a new record to the table.

  • Delete the record that you created in previous step.

Treatment

By completing the exercises below, the participant should be able to access to the Treatments window, review details of any existing record and also be able to create a new treatment record. Click Here for Additional Information on Pavement Express Treatments.

 Exercise  9: Structure Treatments window.

  • Open the Structure Treatment window.

  • Review few records in the Treatment pane along with all related information in the Improvements pane.

  • Add a new Treatment record to the table.


Decision Trees

By completing the exercises below, the participant should be able to update the Upper-Level Decision Tree and configure the Lower-Level Decision Tree. Click Here for Additional Information on Pavement Express Decision Tree.

Exercise 10:  Access the Upper Decision Tree, make updates, configure Lower-Level Decision Tree, Assign, Dis-Assign, and Delete a Decision Tree.

  •  Update an existing Upper Decision Tree by adding a new branch to a Node.

  • Create a new Decision Tree

  • Create a new Lower-Level Decision Tree

  • Connect a Lower-Level Decision Tree to an Upper Decision Tree

  • Modify/Dis-Assign a Lower-Level Decision Tree

  • Delete a Lower-Level Decision Tree


How to run Optimization Analysis (Optimization Analysis)

Exercise 11:  Create/Run optimization Analysis.

  •  Open the Optimization Analysis window.

  • Create a new scenario.

  • Add record for the objective and constraints of the optimization (you created).

  • Add a subdivision constraint record.

  • Run a multi-constraint optimization network analysis.

  • Insert a Reporting Function.

  • Include a (Master Work Plan) project to the analysis.

  • Run the Scenario.

  • Review the following results: Scenario Work Plan Results, Scenario Constraint Results, Report, and Summary Report
